3LoE and Master GECA: Applied Research for Environmental Sustainability of Companies

These hubs not only provide support to SMEs in the field of sustainable economy but also promote applied research to find practical solutions to environmental problems. Additionally, the Green Economy Skills Alliance, with its extensive network of educational and economic partners, fosters knowledge exchange and collaboration to address environmental challenges more effectively.

The Master's in Environmental Management and Control (GECA) is a tangible example of how the 3LoE project is directly influencing the training of a workforce specialized in environmental sustainability. Through modules dedicated to decarbonization, energy transition, and water resource management, students acquire fundamental skills to address global environmental challenges.

In the prestigious setting of the Sant'Anna School in Pisa, the educational module dedicated to efficient water resource management within the context of the GECA Master has concluded. Coordinated by Rudy Rossetto, the module provided students with a thorough understanding of the challenges and solutions related to sustainable water management.

In addition to corporate testimonies, including prominent names such as Ferrarelle, ERM, HS Engineering, Acque spa, and interventions by experts such as the Tuscan Water Authorities, ASA Livorno, and the Higher Institute of Health, students had the opportunity to visit various wastewater treatment plants in the Campiglia Marittima area and surroundings. Furthermore, they were able to observe the phytodepuration plant near the picturesque Massaciuccoli lake and visit the production site of Sofidel in Lucchesia, where they deepened their understanding of the importance of responsible water use and reuse in the industrial context.

Moreover, the module on decarbonization and energy transition, coordinated by Francesco Fantozzi of the University of Perugia, anticipates a focus on energy consumption, providing students with a thorough understanding of strategies and technologies to reduce the environmental impact associated with energy production and consumption.
