Education and Sustainability: 3LoE and GECA Master for a Sustainable Future

Within the collaboration between 3LoE and Master GECA, on April 19th, a meeting with companies was held to define the topics within which the paths of applied research developed by students will be conducted.
The sectors represented by the companies range from the provision of public services (water, gas, energy, and waste) to the retail trade of fishery products, from the treatment of urban and special non-hazardous waste to the management and valorization of industrial waste, up to the collection, transport, disposal, treatment, storage, and recycling of waste, including PFAS and non-recyclable plastics, as well as the reuse of end-of-life tires (ELT), and the management of disposal and recycling of municipal solid waste (MSW).
The meeting was also an opportunity to share with companies the 3LoE approach dedicated to paths for the Green Economy, based on "Applicable Research," a methodology aimed at implementing students' learning into action to support the solution of sustainability problems arising in the production environment.
Among the thematic focuses proposed by 3LoE, the one that arouses the greatest interest in this context is Module C "Management and Technologies of the Circular Economy".

The students, guided by SSSA and supported by 3LoE, will develop possible responses to the needs of companies through paths of applied research.
The collaboration between the University and the Center of Excellence for Education (COVE) is one of the tools supporting the definition of Training Ecosystems, generative spaces that connect universities, schools, and territories. This is an approach destined to revolutionize the landscape of training and innovation in the green economy, demonstrating the coherence of the Professional Excellence Centers (COVEs), and in particular of 3LoE, dedicated to the green innovation of companies.
The 3LoE project substantiates the training model of applied research, laying the groundwork for innovation in training dedicated to the green economy: from learning to action for green change in companies. On this principle of action, green skills are based, one of the methodological innovations proposed by 3LoE.
In perfect harmony with the 3LoE project, the Master GECA offers students comprehensive and practice-oriented training to become protagonists in the sustainable economy. The participating companies, including Agenia, Ancitel EA, Arbi Dario, Cermec, Greentire, Itelyum, and Scapigliato, presented laboratory proposals consistent with the main thematic areas of the 3LoE project.
The Master GECA will focus on the third of the 3 levels of the 3LoE project, which stands out with themes of water management, waste management, and energy efficiency. The Master GECA will explore macro themes such as climate change, sustainable procurement and waste reduction, and circular economy, in perfect harmony with the themes of the 3LoE project.
Not only a challenging educational experience, but also an opportunity to actively contribute to research and development for a green transition. In September, the final event in Riga will be the occasion to present the testimony of this collaboration between Master GECA and SFC for 3LoE and will represent a crucial moment to share testimonies of applied research.
