The current health crisis has highlighted the vulnerability of the tourism industry. Hundreds of millions of visitors have been lost in 2020, a factor that has profoundly affected the activities of all businesses. This crisis has also accelerated social transformations, with consumers now seeking more responsible and sustainable tourism. This type of tourism can bring environmental, social and economic benefits while providing competitive advantages through cost savings and improved quality of supply.
The European project TouriSME, in which SFC - Sistemi Formativi Confindustria is the business partner, has launched a European call for tourism SMEs to support them on sustainability issues through customised capacity building, matchmaking events, mentoring and financial support to achieve environmental certification and improve their environmental performance.
This is a real opportunity for SMEs, the call will be open until 15 September 2021 but hurry up and submit your application. The number of vouchers is limited. The target SMEs that will be able to access the vouchers are hotels and similar establishments, holiday and short-term accommodation, as well as travel agencies, tour operators and related activities located in Italy, Spain, France and Cyprus.
In accordance with the business objectives of each SME, participation in the TouriSME programme will allow them to benefit from services and advice to a value of up to € 7,000.
The support that selected SMEs will receive will start in November 2021 and will allow them to take part in knowledge transfer activities, matchmaking events for international cooperation and knowledge exchanges, as well as personalised mentoring and financial support to access environmental certifications. Activities will be completed by October 2022.
The proposed capacity building activities will support SMEs in implementing sustainable practices by consuming less energy and resources, producing less waste and offering new ways of travelling in line with the market.
