The New Metro project ends on 25 March in Brussels with the awarding of prizes to the student teams that participated in the NEW METRO Challenge!
New Metro and is the European Sector Skill Alliance on mechatronics developed under the European Union's Erasmus + Programme, which aims to support the development of skilled resources for advanced manufacturing processes across Europe.
The work carried out by the partnership has reached all its objectives thanks to the active participation of 70 stakeholders including mechatronics companies, training institutions, public institutions and universities from 7 countries.
In the 3 years that the project has been running, the partners have worked to create a common European Mechatronics Higher Technician training programme, identifying emerging competences in the sector and defining related assessment and certification methods shared at European level, as well as encouraging and supporting adult learning and training of workers already active in the sector. More specifically, the results were:
- The creation of an innovative European skills framework, centred on the ESCO - European Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations framework 'Mechatronics engineering technician;
- The design of a modular e-learning platform addressing differentiated learning targets and methodologies such as WBL - Work Based Learning, and VOOC - Vocational Open Online Course;
- The approval of a shared framework for assessing and certifying competences according to European transparency tools (EQF level 5).
NEXT STEPS
The NEW METRO partnership is committed to broaden the contributions and discussion on the topic of innovation in VET systems - Vocational Education & Training for Mechatronics.
Participation is open to innovation centres in the area, including DIHs in Italy, vocational training centres specialised in mechanics and mechatronics, EdTech companies applying digital technologies in training and, above all, companies carrying the demand for mechatronics skills.
