With the presentation of the Project Work, the first edition of the 2020 Economic Statistical Training School, conceived by the Confindustria Study Center and LUISS in collaboration with SFC - Altascuola Confindustria, and with the scientific support of ISTAT, came to a close on March 15, 2021, for the 26 participants.
The Advanced Course, worth 12 university credits, was conducted entirely online and engaged an exceptional faculty from October 2020 to March 2021, composed of professors and researchers selected from LUISS, the Confindustria Study Center, the Economic Research Department of the Bank of Italy, ISTAT, the Parliamentary Budget Office, and the Financial Times.
The primary objective of the course was to provide the necessary skills to critically analyze economic trends and interpret and communicate them accurately. The ability to understand the current reality is crucial, especially in a context like the one we have been experiencing in recent months, characterized by radical and rapid changes. Among the main topics covered in the 2020 edition, as highlighted by the speakers at the concluding session, were the analysis of recent economic developments and long-term trends that characterize the Italian economy, always with an international comparison in mind, and the development of in-depth insights into two major thematic areas: families/society and businesses. The course also placed significant emphasis on enhancing the techniques of statistical and economic information communication, essential for writing executive reports and in-depth notes, and for conducting interviews and interactions with the media.
Thanks to the excellent outcome of the first edition, the Academic Senate of LUISS has approved the second edition, which will take place in the fall.
Furthermore, there are plans to create a "global" edition of the course titled "Managing economic data for decision making," entirely online and in English, open to an international audience (junior economists, economic journalists, economic attachés of embassies) and taught by instructors from international institutions such as the European Central Bank, OECD, Joint Research Centre, CEPS, European Commission, WTO, Federal Reserve, LUISS, and other foreign universities, along with experts from Business Europe and the Confindustria Study Center.
