The launch event for the Buildskills Academy took place in Sofia from June 26 to 28, 2023, where project partners, led by Cleantech Bulgaria, laid the foundations for an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming training in the construction sector across Europe. The primary goal is to establish a common quality system and a transnational methodology to ensure high standards in the design, implementation, and certification of emerging skills.
During the meeting, the project partners emphasized the importance of taking a systemic approach to address the current skills gap and anticipate future needs in the construction sector. The initiative aims to provide more and better job opportunities, improve safety in the workplace, and support sustainable building standards to combat climate change.
Another key objective of the project is to make the European Vocational Education and Training (VET) system in the construction sector more attractive to new talent and businesses. This will be achieved through concerted efforts among private and public partners to invest in quality training, knowledge, and skills within the sector.
The Buildskills Academy is closely aligned with the European commitments made under the "Renovation Wave for Europe," including directives on building energy performance and the "New European Bauhaus" initiative. Additionally, the project will contribute to achieving the EU's 2050 climate targets.
A crucial aspect of the project will be the development of a transnational methodology to guide VET providers and key stakeholders in the construction sector in collaborating to enhance what already exists. During the event, Professor Georgina Spyres from the Athens University of Economics and Business outlined the priorities for creating a methodology that highlights common criteria and ensures their applicability at the local level.
In this context, Circular Berlin and Sistemi Formativi Confindustria will respectively contribute to defining emerging skills and interpreting EQAVET indicators to support the retraining and upgrading of VET systems in construction.
The Buildskills Academy project, co-financed by the European Union under the Erasmus Plus program, is part of a broader spectrum of European initiatives supported by Sistemi Formativi Confindustria (SFC). SFC stakeholders, including companies in the construction sector and specialized vocational training organizations, will be actively involved in the Academy's activities, which will run for four years starting in June 2023.
