On 29 January, twenty Italian experts from training institutes, universities, construction companies, and innovation agencies met to discuss a key question: can a single European certification framework support builders, trainers, and students across borders?
The round table, organised by SFC – Sistemi Formativi Confindustria in cooperation with Centoform as part of the Erasmus+ BuildSkills Academy COVE, brought together stakeholders from vocational education, industry, and regional development. Coordinated by Elena Romanini and Emanuele Piaia, the meeting focused on the new BSA certification framework aligned with EQF Level 5.
Participants welcomed the framework’s structured approach to quality, which evaluates training programmes, student competencies, and internal quality assurance processes. Many highlighted its potential to strengthen vocational education, improve recognition of skills, and support worker mobility across Europe.
The system was also appreciated for complementing – not replacing – existing national qualifications, an important feature in a fragmented skills recognition landscape like Italy’s.
At the same time, stakeholders stressed the need to build a strong network of adopters to give the framework wider visibility and credibility. Awareness among training providers, companies, and sector organisations will be essential for its success.
The Italian round table is one of six organised in BSA pilot countries, alongside Bulgaria, Cyprus, Lithuania, Greece, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Insights from all meetings will contribute to a transnational report supporting the future development and wider adoption of the BSA certification framework.
