Within the framework of the European project IN.S.E.T. – Industrial Symbiosis Capacity Building for Enterprises and Related Actors, co-financed by the Erasmus+ program, SFC Sistemi Formativi Confindustria explored the case of Regusto, an Italian digital platform that enables the valorization of by-products and surpluses, transforming them into traceable resources and certified ESG data.
Through an interview with Paolo Rellini, CEO and Co-Founder, the evolutionary path of Regusto emerged, from an initiative focused on recovering food surpluses to a digital ecosystem capable of connecting companies, Third Sector organizations, and public administrations, fostering the creation of environmental, social, and economic value.
“It was a natural development, driven by the needs of companies,” Rellini explains, emphasizing how the availability of certified data represents an enabling factor for ESG reporting and the adoption of industrial symbiosis models that are scalable and replicable at the European level.
Today, the Regusto platform involves over 2,000 non-profit organizations and numerous industrial groups, supporting practical applications of the circular economy: from the reuse of construction materials to the redistribution of corporate assets, and B2B projects where the waste of one company becomes the production input for another.
From this perspective, industrial symbiosis is not only a lever for sustainability but also a driver for technological innovation, capable of generating positive impacts along production and territorial value chains.
Through this case study, SFC aims to highlight Regusto’s best practice as a reference for the European production system reached through the IN.S.E.T. project, promoting operational models in which the transformation of by-products into value becomes a structured, measurable, and replicable process.
