The project stems from the training needs expressed by companies in the mechatronics cluster, and from a proposal of the Reggio Emilia CIS, supported by SFC, which coordinates the activities.

NEW METRO is a Sector Skill Alliance in the mechatronics sector and is co-funded by ERASMUS+ within the framework of the EACEA’s call in 2018 for “Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices – Sector Skills Alliances”.

Started in December 2018, the project activities will continue until November 2021. Due to the delays that the Covid 19 lockdown has imposed on the implementation of the Work Based Learning training courses, the project has been extended until March 2022.

NEW METRO aims to build a partnership between the major actors involved in the development of MECHATRONIC VET systems.

Coming from 7 countries, there are 11 partners which will implement the activities, 7 associated partners. Partners involved:

• VET Providers: SFC (IT), CIS - Reggio Emilia, University of Ioannina (GR), Wysza Szkola Logistiki Z Siedziba W Poznaniu (P), Rēzeknes Tehnoloģiju Akadēmija - Laboratory of Pedagogical Technologies(LV) e FH Joanneum Gesellschaft MBH (A);
• Industries and their representatives: Federmeccanica (IT), Hanse Parlament EV (D) Kholer - Lombardini s.r.l. (IT); Unindustria Reggio Emilia, WWGroup Polska, Imperial Logistics, GLS, Raben, Nova Tracking as associate partners;
• Policy makers committed to provide the VET system with the right legal framework: Ministry of Education, University of Research (IT), ENSE Generalitat Catalunya - Departament D'Ensenyament (E) and Regione Emilia Romagna as associated partner;

Confindustria delegation in Brussels and SII contribute in disseminating the activities.

The project is carried out in support of I4.0 framework, focusing on Vocational Education and Training - VET systems providing skills for Mechatronics. It aims to:

• Reduce the mismatch gap and increase employability in the Mechatronics sector, by creating a new competence framework, effective in Europe. The training courses are focused on KETs skills and Industry 4.0 framework
• Increase stakeholders’ awareness about social and organisation changes caused by the new production processes
• Involve regional and European regulatory bodies and interested parties in developing policies supporting I4.0 initiative
• Address young people towards choosing VET university courses (ex ITS), by offering online learning courses, trainings and internships (WBL – work based learning) and a valid certification

The NEW METRO targets are young and adult workers, Students in the Mechatronics industry interested in upgrading their technical professional profile based on a European skill framework.

Among the beneficiaries, there are Businesses training departments, High Technical Institute (ITS in Italy), Universities and post graduate schools, companies and sectorial associations, regional, national, and European policy and decision makers.
