A new interactive tool for TOURISME: Explore the virtual city!

On the 28th and 29th of April, the first B2B event of the TOURISME project was successfully organized by the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias in Tenerife. Approximately 40 companies participated, including 6 Italian firms, to share ideas and solutions aimed at implementing best practices for sustainable tourism in various contexts and regions. The interest in adopting these best practices stems from both the potential cost savings resulting from reduced resource waste and the desire of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to be part of an excellent tourism proposal cluster, capable of conveying and sharing a renewed image of the territory as a common good. With the TOURISME project, the goal is to promote an approach to environmental sustainability that supports the balance among the different elements of the tourism offer, creating a new way of enjoying the territory and receiving hospitality services - "Landscape is not only made up of buildings and nature but also of people." The Tenerife event concluded with the idea of living and promoting the tourist product, generating a positive environmental impact.

The next meeting will take place in Paris, where the Institute Paris Region will host the SMEs benefiting from the TouriSME project for the second matchmaking event. Environmental certification systems for tourism, including the EcoLabel, will be among the main topics of the event, which will conclude with a slow urban tourism experience in Paris, "Discovering the Intimacy of the City."

In the meantime, the dates for other TouriSME B2B meetings are being defined: in June, the Nicosia Development Agency in Cyprus will host the event, and the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and Sistemi Formativi Confindustria in Italy will be present at Ecomondo in November to focus on technical solutions suitable for the needs of tourism SMEs. The questions to be addressed include the break-even point for using waste compactors and desalination units in small businesses and the solutions available to SMEs for energy storage.

While waiting for the upcoming meetings and for more companies to join the project, TOURISME has created a small 'virtual city' by collecting best practices. Thanks to this interactive tool, you can find detailed descriptions of the initiatives that various tourism stakeholders can implement. The platform is divided into themes, including Corporate Social Responsibility, Eco-construction, Energy and Water Reduction, and Sustainable Mobility, as well as sectors such as Hotels and Similar Structures and Travel Agencies. For each topic, there are cards with descriptions, suggestions for solutions to adopt, and how to implement and monitor them. You can explore the virtual city through this [link](link not provided).

If you are interested in participating in the TouriSME project, the call for SMEs has been open in 2022, and you have until Monday, May 9th, at 5:00 PM to apply. To apply, you need to fill out the online form.
