According to ISTAT data, in April 2024 the automotive sector in Italy recorded a 20.3% drop in production compared to April 2023. This contraction does not affect the good registration results in Italy, which in the first 4 months alone showed a +7.7% compared to the previous year (ACEA data), benefiting HEVs (38.5%) over gasoline cars (31.1%).
These data confirm the picture of an automotive, transport, and mobility sector undergoing an epochal transformation driven by four main development factors, including:
Digitalization, which includes topics such as cybersecurity, service digitization and connectivity, digital twins, and simulations for predictive maintenance.
Environmental sustainability and the application of circular economy principles in the sector, analyzing the impact of electric mobility, alternative fuels such as hydrogen, e-fuels, and CNG.
Value chain resilience, including logistics, aftermarket repair and maintenance services, production, design and development of new products and services, and refinement of quality measurement techniques.
New business models driven by consumer experiences in terms of preferences and services, Mobility as a Service, Tire as a Service, and Maintenance as a Service.
This evolution, in line with the main development drivers of the European Union and global sustainability goals, presents new challenges for businesses, and new professionals will need to be able to interpret emerging scenarios and guide business development and innovation towards renewed mobility ecosystems.
What does this epochal evolution entail? From market and production scenarios to labor systems, the changes we are analyzing are various, and the acceleration of the processes of updating and developing the skills of workers currently employed in the sector must be guided by a transnational sharing of training needs.
In this context, initiatives like TRIREME offer support for the development and strategic repositioning of companies.
TRIREME "Digital & Green Skills Towards the Future of the Mobility Ecosystem" is the transnational initiative involving 32 partners active in 15 countries, aimed at outlining the growth and change needs of the skill framework, analyzing training needs, and prioritizing the updating of training, certification, and skill enhancement systems in the automotive, transport, and mobility sectors.
The TRIREME survey to identify the priorities of professional changes needed in the sector to renew production systems, business models, achieve change, and increase partnerships at the European and international levels is open to:
All companies, large and small, in the automotive, transport, mobility sectors and their value chains.
All workers, managers and technicians, workers, consultants, experts in production systems, services, and aftermarket in the sectors.
All social, employer, and trade union parties in the automotive, transport, and mobility sectors.
All training institutions engaged in the frontline change of the sector's skill ecosystem.

The data collected will be shared during the TRIREME workshop to be held in Milan on September 26, 2024, from 11:00 am, and will form the basis for rethinking sectoral training models, improving skills, and facilitating the retraining and creation of professional specializations capable of supporting the development of the sector and workers, also through dual training and on-the-job training.
