On July 23, 2024, the final event of the GECA Master’s program took place at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa. This advanced, interdisciplinary academic program is continuously updated to train specialists in environmental sustainability and sustainable management, focusing on corporate sustainability and the circular economy.
This year, the GECA Master’s program collaborated with the Erasmus+ 3LoE project, in which SFC Sistemi Formativi Confindustria partners. The project is committed to identifying methodologies, tools, and best practices across the three levels of education for green skills in Europe.
Specifically, 3LoE supported the collaboration between universities and businesses for the GECA Master’s program by organizing Applied Research Labs focused on corporate sustainability. The event on July 23 was an opportunity to hear student presentations on the applied research projects carried out within various business contexts.
The GECA Master and 3LoE labs brought together students, academics, and partner companies, offering a comprehensive view of innovative solutions to make business processes more sustainable.
Following an opening address by Prof. Marco Frey, Director of the GECA Master, and in the presence of faculty and companies involved in the labs, students presented the objectives, methodologies, and results achieved in each applied research project.
The first lab, titled Proposal for a Supplier Evaluation System on Socio-Environmental Aspects involved collaboration with Arbi Dario S.p.A. This project mapped the supply chain of the fishery company, providing a tool to evaluate and improve the environmental and social performance of its suppliers.
Next, the second lab, "Climate Change: Between Capture and Compensation" explored solutions to tackle climate change, including CO2 capture and utilization, and compensation through reforestation. This project was carried out in collaboration with Ancitel EA s.r.l., Itelyum s.r.l., and Scapigliato s.r.l.
Finally, the third lab, "Recovery of Plasmix and End-of-Life Tires: Challenges and Opportunities" analyzed possibilities for recovering complex materials such as Plasmix and End-of-Life Tires (ELTs), offering alternative solutions to disposal.
This project involved partners like Greentire and Cermec.
To conclude the event, Paola Previdi, CEO of Sistemi Formativi Confindustria, encouraged students to continue their in-depth studies on the circular economy in businesses, to anticipate the growing demand for green skills in Italian and European entrepreneurship.
