After 25 months of intensive work, the international consortium is ready to launch the pilot phase by starting 12 highly specialized training programs focused on green skills. The meeting highlighted the achievement of implementing the 8 MASTERY methodological elements in 12 courses dedicated to green skills. Each training program has been designed to meet the concrete needs of the labor market in ecological transition, considering both the learner's perspective and the labor system, offering microcredentials that certify immediately applicable skills.

The meeting in Pisa renewed the collaboration and sharing of approaches for microcredentials with other actors involved in the European development of approaches aimed at anticipating and certifying strategic skills for sustainable innovation in Europe. After inviting Green Circle, TERRA, and MicroVET, this time it was CERES' turn, an Erasmus+ initiative dedicated to updating curricula to prepare students, professionals, and educators for the circular economy.
Federica Acerbi from Politecnico di Milano, project leader, and Claudio Sassanelli from Politecnico di Bari shared strategies to move in the same direction as MASTERY: building targeted skills to update curricula, enhance professional profiles, and create concrete opportunities for know-how growth for companies and workers.
As highlighted by CERES representatives, the adoption of microcredentials in universities is helping to make academic programs more flexible, relevant to the labor market, and aligned with lifelong learning. This vision is fully shared by MASTERY and strengthened through vocational training.
A decisive year: from experimentation to policy recommendations
2026 marks the final and most intense year of the MASTERY project. The consortium has defined an ambitious action plan that includes:
- Completion of the pilot phase by June 2026, with the involvement of at least 30 participants per country and the issuance of 150 microcredentials.
- Development of policy recommendations for integrating MASTERY microcredentials into national and European strategies for the green transition by October 2026.
- Organization of the final event in Brussels in December 2026 to present the project results and best practices.
The Pisa meeting emphasized the critical importance of stakeholder involvement to ensure the sustainability of MASTERY microcredentials beyond the project's duration. For this reason, in the coming months, the MASTERY consortium will be active with training institutions, businesses, policymakers, and organizations interested in the ecological transition to invite them to join the MASTERY community.
